Note: To ensure that all of our services and programs are accessible to all who wish to participate, we have adopted a hybrid, multi-access model. All Shir Hadash activities are offered onsite at The J or at a member’s home and online via Zoom.
Be sure to check our Calendar for the most up-to-date information. If you are interested in attending a Shabbat service or program, either in person or on Zoom, contact Carol Wolf Solomon.
We like variety, so our weekly Shabbat observances take many forms.
Shabbat Dinners - We love to eat, so we get together on the first Shabbat of the month for a Friday night Shabbat in a member's home and virtually on Zoom.
We spend the evening eating, unwinding, talking and learning together in a relaxed family setting. Most meals are pot luck, and all have fish, vegetarian, and vegan options. There is no charge to attend, but as a courtesy to our home hosts, RSVP is required. Please contact us by the Monday before the dinner if you would like to attend.Shabbat Morning Services We worship at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Shabbat of every month at The J's Arts & Education Building and via Zoom.
Our services are musical, participatory, and egalitarian. All are welcome as we pray together and discuss the week's Torah portion. We are known for our lively Torah discussions!Shabbat Learning We devote the third and occasional fifth Shabbat of each month to learning together. We gather at 10 a.m. at The J's Arts & Education Building and on Zoom. These learning sessions cover all things Jewish -- the arts, culture, history, holidays, ritual, Jewish texts, literature, Israel, current events, and more. While there is no formal service on these Shabbatot, we always include prayers for MiShebeirach (healing) and Kaddish. Please check our events calendar for details of upcoming topics.
